Now that we’re officially into 2012, you may have noticed some significant price increases by a couple of your favorite sunglasses manufacturers, in their Rx lenses (specifically Maui Jim and Oakley). What caused the price change? The main reason the prices jumped so significantly is that neither Maui Jim nor Oakley are making traditionally surfaced Rx lenses anymore. Maui Jim Kahuna SunglassesI know it’s been a while since my last post, and I apologize. It’s been a bit hectic lately, but I’m settling back into a groove. I know that you’ve all heard me mention on here about Digitally Surfaced Progressive lenses. These lenses are designed for your specific prescription and your personal measurements. These lenses really do give you clearer vision, better peripheral, and a wider field of view in your intermediate and reading zones. If your prescription is out of the ordinary, then you notice even better results.

What you may not have known, is that you can also get these lenses in single vision. You get most of the same benefits in a digitally surfaced single vision lens: clearer overall vision, better peripheral vision and usually a thinner lens. The intermediate and reading zone benefits don’t apply, but I’ll tell you: If you have a fair amount of astigmatism (also called cylinder), or a higher Rx, whether you’re nearsighted or farsighted, these lenses do make a difference. I have a fairly heavy script (-6.00), and I do notice a difference between my digitally surfaced lenses and my traditionally surfaced lenses. I have significantly better peripheral vision, and I do feel that it’s also clearer all around. These lenses truly are amazing. If you have questions, drop me a line. I’m always happy to talk optics!
