Now that we’re officially into 2012, you may have noticed some significant price increases by a couple of your favorite sunglasses manufacturers, in their Rx lenses (specifically Maui Jim and Oakley). What caused the price change? The main reason the prices jumped so significantly is that neither Maui Jim nor Oakley are making traditionally surfaced Rx lenses anymore. They have both gone fully digital. What does this mean for you? This gives you the opportunity to have significantly better vision, truthfully. Digitally surfaced lenses (both single vision and progressive) can offer a much larger distortion-free area than traditionally surfaced lenses. With Digital lenses, the manufacturers have been able to expand the Rx ranges in their sunglasses, while keeping the same awesome styles, and great wrap designs. I know it costs more, but it’s really a win-win situation.
Reptile and Wiley X also offer Digitally surfaced lenses, but they still also offer traditionally surfaced lenses, if you just can’t (or don’t want to) pay the upgraded prices. If you need more information on Digital Lenses, or anything I have mentioned here, let me know!
Happy New Year!
