I know I wrote about Retrospecs before (last May, to be more exact), but they’ve come out with quite a few new eyeglass frames since then, and I really wanted to let everyone know. If you’re looking for a vintage frame, and not simply a “retro look,” then Retrospecs is the company for you. Retrospecs refurbishes eyewear from the 20s-70s…back when glasses were made by jewelers. The vast majority of the metal frames are gold filled, and the quality is tremendous. They now have quite a large selection of zyl frames as well. These frames have to go through an intense conditioning process to rehydrate them, and bring them back to their original beauty. They have exceptional horn pieces, which use hinges and styles from vintage frames. Not only does Retrospecs refurbish regular eyeglasses, but they also have sunglasses! They’ve been finding some amazing pieces; from the very original Raybans, to 70′s metal pilots and plastic sunnies. Their selection just keeps on growing.

Another very cool thing about Retrospecs is they can refurbish your vintage eyewear, too! You can always call us up, and we’ll send your glasses to Retrospecs. They’ll be able to let you know if the glasses are worth salvaging, and what they can do for you. If you’re looking for a one-of-a-kind frame, Retrospecs is the way to go!

The Vance sunglasses are a vintage inspired shape, with a modern interpretation. They are painstakingly handcrafted from a 10mm thick piece of acetate. This is definitely a frame I could see for “Blues Brothers,” were it remade today. They have the Read the rest of this entry »

We just had our l.a. eyeworks rep here, and she brought some very cool new pieces with her. Most of them will debut at Mido and Vision Expo East next month, but she had a few in advance, and there will be some she’ll have to show us at the show. I have to say, my favorite of the new l.a. eyeworks frames is definitely the Quinn. This is an adorable cat-eye frame, with a twist. It’s a great Read the rest of this entry »

I think the first thing I need to do in my post today is apologize for being gone from the blog for so long. I was on vacation down in Puerto Vallarta last week (and if you saw the weather in Denver, you’d know it was the PERFECT week to be gone!), soaking up the sun and warmth. Of course, I couldn’t be without my polarized sunglasses, either! My current Maui Jims are Read the rest of this entry »
