Rudy Project Rydon

The weather’s cooling down a bit, but it’s still beautiful out (at least here in sunny Colorado), and I wanted to take some time to talk about prescription eyewear for cycling. Some of the best glasses and sunglasses for cycling is made by Rudy Project. Rudy Project started as a Read the rest of this entry »

Silmo 2010 is over now, and I’m back in Colorado. It’s definitely a change from Paris, but it’s always nice to be home. Anne et Valentin released a couple very interesting designs at Silmo this year.

The first design is simple, when you think about it. It’s based on a loop. The frame front is one single piece of metal, looping around the lenses. There is a small piece of acetate on the top, to help hold the lenses in and to add a little je ne sais quoi. It’s very cool, and I can’t wait until we get them in! Read the rest of this entry »

Catherine and Judy model new Mykita Mylon eyewear

I dropped by the Mykita booth while I was at Silmo, and they have a really cool concept. You’ve heard about 3D printers? Well, they’ve got a new material they call Mylon, and they use something similar to a 3D printer to make it. Instead of paper, it’s constructed using a powder material similar to nylon. There are some really cool and out there things at Silmo this year, and one of the more interesting was a design from a company called Roger Eyewear. Roger designed some glasses that are recyclable, and can be made from recycled materials as well. In addition to that, they’re somewhat similar to Daily Wear Contact Lenses. The glasses are made from a couple sheets of cardboard, with a plastic piece in between. You can actually put a prescription lens in the designer sunglasses, too! The idea behind this fascinating concept is that you can change the front piece of cardboard at any time you want, for a completely different look. Read the rest of this entry »

I got to meet Tom Davies himself, when I went over to the Tom Davies Bespoke eyewear booth at Silmo. Tom is a wonderful designer, and, on top of that, he’s a really cool guy! We got to talk a lot about his new glasses, and his continuation of the Bespoke glasses he’s so taken with. If you’ve never heard the term “bespoke” it means something pretty much created by you. For pretty much all of Tom Davies glasses, you can really customize them. It goes beyond color, for sure! Read the rest of this entry »
