You’ve probably heard that, no matter what you do, as you get older you’ll probably need progressive lenses or bifocals or, at the very least, reading glasses. Why is this the case? What changes as we age?
When we read a page in a book, or something on a computer screen, our eyes converge. They move inward and focus on things closer to us. As we age, the muscles in our eyes, as with all the muscles in our bodies, tend to lose elasticity. When that happens, our eyes can’t move inward as much, and have trouble focusing on things that are closer. This is called Presbyopia.
There are a few options people usually turn to when they start to become presbyopic. They are: progressive lenses or no-line bifocals. After that, there are lined bifocals, reading glasses and monovision contacts.
I’ll be detailing some of these options in upcoming posts. Feel free to write in any questions!
