There is one thing people rarely think about, when it comes to protecting their eyes: Sports Eye Protection. One of the leaders in this industry is Rec Specs.
I’m not talking about sunglasses, but just about protecting your eyes when you’re in any kind of contact sport, or a sport where there could be objects flying at your face. Since you use your eyes for almost everything you do from the moment you wake up, you should definitely consider a pair of Rec Specs for your sporting needs. You can get them in prescription or non-prescription, and you can get them clear, or with any tint or transitioning lens.
Rec Specs makes their frames in many sizes to fit just about any face. They make kids frames, and within the next couple weeks, will be coming out with a cooler line of kids protection eyewear; something kids will want to wear!
There’s no reason not to own a pair of these glasses, or sunglasses, since they protect one of your most valuable assets.
I just wanted to talk about Gunnar Optiks again. They are just so super cool! They were made for people who don’t have to wear glasses, but still find their eyes getting fatigued after a long day at the computer, or in front of your video game console.
Gunnars create a special atmosphere in front of your eye, with the wrap of the frame, the color of the lenses, and the slight prescription, specifically for focusing at closer quarters. When you stare at a computer screen, or tv for a long time, it’s been proven that you blink much less often than normally. When you wear Gunnars, they trap more moisture behind the lenses, so your eyes don’t get as dry. This allows you to be more comfortable, and experience less fatigue and stress.
A lot of gamers have commented on their glasses, after having worn them. They have said they have faster response times, and can stay in the game longer with less fatigue. If you play for long hours, or play competitively, these glasses will definitely help your game.
There is one line of eyeglasses we carry in our stores that fits the popular retro chic motif perfectly. Retrospecs is actually made up of vintage frames from the 20′s through the 70′s that have been refurbished. They’re all new, unworn frames that have been found in collections, or back stock from old optical stores. This is back when jewelers were making frames, and so many of them are gold-filled. This makes them easy to restore, and fairly durable, as well.
The eyeglass frames are mostly metal, with a few zyl and horn frames mixed in. The metal frames are either full rimmed, or rimless, with classic shapes. They do some truly round glasses, a lot of P3 shapes, and some classic Aviator and navigator shapes from the 70′s. Some of them have cable temples, which wrap around your ear, and hold them very securely in place.
If you’re interested in a piece of history, and want to do something authentic for your retro glasses, you can’t miss these!
I spoke with Connie in our Cherry Creek store this morning. She’s very excited about some of the new eyeglass frames from Anne et Valentin. They have some round glasses she considers stellar. Truly round glasses are difficult to come by, and always a treat when they have style and panache, as well. Round glasses are perfect for people with high power, because they keep the lenses as thin as possible, while giving you the most vision. Connie says these new glasses are funky, and don’t “just look like a medical device.”
In what seems almost like an oxymoron, she says they fit well into most people’s eye sockets, so they even somewhat disappear, too.
She’s also excited about the new oval frames Anne et Valentin is making. They are small enough to fit most faces, and remind her of the glasses she wore in the 60′s. She said she loved them because her mother swore she would never wear them, as they reminded her of her grandmother’s glasses!
So, if you’re looking for a retro pair of glasses, these are definitely ones to look for. They’re called Math.
