Time and time again we get the question, if I order glasses online how do I know the frame will fit. I’ll come right out and say it, nothing beats visiting a local optical store and trying frames on with the help of a certified optician, nothing. However, if you are unable to find particular styles or designers at your local optical stores it is a nice option to have access to them via online outlets. When going this route there are a few things you can do that will help assure a good fit.
If you already have a pair of eyeglasses that fit well you can look at the inside temple of the frame for some vital information. More often than not you will see a series of two or three numbers. If two numbers are listed they should correspond to the eye size and bridge size of the frame and will appear something like this, 52-16, if there is a third number it will correspond to the temple length and appear similarly to this, 52-16-130. Other numbers appearing on the temple may correspond to model name and color. If you have a frame with sizing information you have a good starting point to find something similar in fit.
Some sunglasses and reading glasses do not display this information on the temples. You can attempt to take measurements yourself but know that these aren’t always accurate. They can however give you a general starting point to work from. If you do find that you are ordering non rx sunglasses or ready made reading glasses and the fit is not correct when you receive it you can return them in their original packaging.
Finally, if there is an optical frame that you are interested in but really want to try it on before committing to lenses just buy the frame. If it arrives and doesn’t fit, its is an easy return. When you do confirm that the fit is good you can then send it back to us for state of the art lenses or choose to visit your local optician to see if they can fit it with proper lenses for you.
Having access to limitless frame styles, color and sizes via the internet is a wonderful thing. Making your selection using the previous guidelines will simplify the online selection process and help ensure a proper fit.
